Easy Organizing Tips to Eliminate Mess and Clutter

organize your homeMany organizing tips can be pretty complicated and let’s face it, getting organized can be such a headache that we never even start the project.

Don’t let the massiveness of the job get you down. Instead of looking at the task as a whole, break it down into smaller pieces and it won’t be so overwhelming.

Here are some easy organizing tips to help you clean up the clutter and get rid of the messes that seem to just keep getting bigger by the day.

  1. Library books get scattered and tossed around to the point that locating them all to get back to the library becomes a chore in itself. Pick one spot in your home to store the books. Use a crate or clear off a shelf and place all the books there. When you need one, just grab it and replace it when you are finished. This tip works well for school books and materials as well.
  2. Instead of throwing pamphlets and booklets into your junk drawer, purchase plastic sheet covers to store the booklets in a three-ring binder.  You can use different binders for different topics and even create a menu so that you know where to find each booklet. You will always know where to look if you need it in the future. You can use this trick for takeout menus too!
  3.  Kids Bath toys can be a hassle since they are wet when bath time is over. Purchase a small laundry basket and place the toys in there for draining and easy storage. You can also put the toys in a drawstring bag made with netting and hang it over the shower head so the toys can drip dry without making a mess. You can purchase small netted laundry bags at your local dollar store.
  4.  If your garage is in a state of disarray, get it back into order quickly using labels. Section off each area of your garage and place a label with “bike parking”, “lawn mower parking” and one over each bench for “garden tools” and “Dad’s tools”. It makes it easier to keep order if your family has a visual of where items should go.
  5.  If you have emergency items scattered all over the place, it will be hard to find what you need on the spur of the moment. Make a shelf in your home high enough so it is out of reach of your small children. Keep your flashlights, batteries, candles, matches, first aid kit, and a file for emergency phone numbers on this shelf so everyone knows where to look in case of an emergency. If you have other people coming into your home such as house cleaners or baby sitters, let them know where the shelf is as well.

Start with this list of organizing tips to get you on the road to a more organized home. The tips are simple and easy to implement and will help you see progress immediately. All it takes is a few crates or labels here and there and a shelf or two cleared off and you are well on your way to getting organized.
